EXPRESSIONS ON ICE, Sunday show

by Susan

Hi Everyone:

I just got back from Connecticut where I saw Katia perform in Yagudin's show "Expressions On Ice" on October 20th.

Katia looked lovely and radiant. The first number she skated was to Russian folk music. She was wearing a red costume, and started with arm movements that were reminiscent of her Russian folk dance at the "Celebration of a Life" performance. Katia did take one hard fall while attempting to jump, but otherwise the program was beautiful. I took a bunch of pictures, and will send a scan to Su-jan.

I ran out of film by her second performance. Katia came out in a blue "cat suit" with a cut out back. She was in great shape; but I can't for the life of me remember what music she skated to. I wanted to take notes, but the lighting wasn't bright enough. I will say this. Katia was not the crowd favorite. Kristi Yamaguchi was...before she skated. But after the performances were complete, the biggest response was for the Russian acrobats Besedin & Polishuk. I wonder if many in the crowd even realized who Katia was. You could tell that Katia was not at the top of her game. The time she took off to have Elizaveta was evident in her skating. She did a lot of posing and graceful arm movements, but not a lot of real skating. I understand this was probably her third performance since the baby was born. Scott Hamilton's Cleveland show being the first, and the October 19th EOI show the second. She just needs a little time to get back into things.
