STARS ON ICE (MOLINE)
by Katie
Last night I saw Katia at the SOI show in Moline, IL! It was so great! Katia was lovely, and she really is a joy to watch. Her Red Scarf number was very powerful and intricate. I liked it very much. She landed everything, although the double axel was a little iffy, she sort of had to squeak it out. Later on in A Sunday Kind of Love she two footed her triple toe, but what a gorgeous number this is!!! I really loved it! Probably one of my favorite Katia programs! I had on ice seats, and I was disappointed that Katia didn't come over to my side to shake hands, but I didn't care, because John Zimmerman gave me a hug!!!!! My friend and I had been very enthusiastic throughout the entire show, and she really cheered for John a lot (mostly because she thought he was a hunk) and he came over to us and told us that we were great and gave us both hugs!!! WOOHOOO!!!!
At the beginning of the show, Jamie and David skated right in front of us and I shouted, "Go Jamie and David!" Jamie noticed and looked at me and smiled. So during the show she would look over at me and smile whenever she was on my side of the rink, and one time during one of their numbers she saw me smiling, and then she got the biggest smile on her face. That was really special because it made me realize that the skaters must really appreciate it when people look happy while they are performing. I was beaming the whole time of course!!! So, at the end, John and Yuka came to our side, and as I was waiting for Yuka to get to me, I see Jamie dart over from the other side of the arena and come directly to me!! She thanked me for coming and said something like, "Thank you so much, you have been wonderful, you guys are great!" I just said, "Oh no, THANK YOU so much, it was great!" I was very happy, Jamie really is a sweetheart!
One last thing, earlier in the show, Elena and Anton came over and stood right in front of us before their Kalinka number, and so I said "hi" to Anton in Russian (I'm a Russian major at school) and he looked at me and said "hi" back! If I would have been thinking I would have thought that since we were strangers I should have used the more formal hello, which is more polite, but I must have been too excited!
