DARIA'S COMPETION - NORTH SHORE OPEN

by EMac0914

Sorry I'm so late posting this but it's been a hectic two days with my daughter skating two events, two different days and a hour and 20 minute drive with Boston traffic.

Daria skated very well, landed clean jumps, was very competitive and her scores say a lot. I really thought she had won her group. I've seen the other girl who tied with her skate a few times before and I guess I just don't like her skating as much. Her program was the music described in the past--Egyptian sounding--with the blue dress with beige lace and sequined trim. Looks nicer on the ice that up close.

We only saw Ilia with Daria but they looked very comfortable being there together.

Daria was just her smiling, personable self and stayed with Ilia pretty much until it was time to get dressed to compete. She was casually dressed like she had gotten out of school to come to the competition--jeans, top, hair in a ponytail with her glasses and a big smile.

Ilia is much taller and definitely more handsome in person than he appears on the ice. He has definitely got a very athletic build--tall and lean, broad shoulders. I did feel bad for him because he really did look like he was trying to be inconspicuous and quiet in the crowd, while still keeping an eye on Daria. When they first got there, within about 5 minutes, people were asking him to take photos with their kids. I'm sure he's used to it, but it really does bother me that people really forget that these great skaters are just parents and normal people just like the rest of us that happen to have really excelled at something.

They very sat near my daughter's coach and I so it was kind of nice that we got to see quite a bit of them. My daughter's coach used to skate in shows but had never met either Katia or Ilia so she was pretty excited when she got to see Ilia. She actually spotted him, saying to me, "he's much bigger in person than he appears on ice". She thought Daria really is looking more like Katia. She thought Katia from the nose and eyes up and Sergei through the cheeks and chin. Definitely Sergei's smile, which lights up her face when she smiles.

It was a thrill to see them again and get to see Daria's program this time. Looking forward to seeing them again soon but I don't think we're doing any more competitions until September.

Here are the complete results of Daria's group
