Stars on Ice (Lake Placid, USA)
by brenda
Hello everyone.
I just returned back to Michigan from Lake Placid. It was an unbelievable Holiday weekend. The weather in Lake Placid so nice and sunny and considerably warm for this time of year. Anyway, I enjoyed the whole experience.
I stayed at the hotel with all the skaters. Saw Katia and Ilia at breakfast two days. They are so cute together. Laughing a lot, holding hands when they walked. They look extremely cute together. She also looks so beautiful in person. Very simply dressed but so elegant and so in shape-amazing for having two kids.
Also, saw Kristi Yamaguchi and her family. Saw Sale and Pelletier, Alexei Yagudin.
We went to the Olympic center and I saw the G and G plaque there. It was really moving to see that and down the hall from what I presume was the rink where Sergei died. Then I just happened to be looking outside my window a few hours before the show and at that moment Daria, Liza and Katia's parents arrived at the hotel.
After the show when we returned to the hotel, her parents also parked next to us. I would have loved to talk to them but it was quite late. I'm also one of those people who would probably have to rehearse what I want to say first.
The show was fantastic and I notice there are already lots of reports so I won't go into that . If anyone ever gets the chance I'd recommend this trip that I've been wanting to do for ten years and finally did.I'd love to go back but it's quite far for me (especially the wait at the US border from Canada was over two hours). Happy Holidays to all.
Addition: I enjoyed both of Katia's numbers. I think I liked Tango a bit more although both were great. The costume for Tango was very pretty(and quite sexy compared to most I've seen of her). The skirt came down half way through the number so I think it was supposed to. I don't know any names for jumps but Katia landed all her jumps that evening with the exception of a little wobble during Tango. The costume for Ciniceta was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life. The color was like an aquamarine and she had on rhintestones all over. The music was also pretty and the number good. Landed all her jumps. Ladies in lavender was so lovely. The lilac costumes were so pretty on all the ladies. Katia and Yuka are both so beautiful to watch. They just make it looke so effortless. Jennifer Robinson was wonderful too, but because I'm not as familiar with her, I have to admit I watched the others more during this number. Katia was so cute in the 60's number. Looked like she was being so interactive with the audience. I really just enjoyed the entire show. It was fun seeing the lilttle clips they had of all the skaters set up on screens at all four corners of the rink. When it came time for Katia to skate Tango, they showed a little clip of her talking and a picture of Daria and Liza. She basically said that she started skating when she"was four or five" and that she now skates for her kids. Ilia was quite amazing especially the Too Darn hot. He sure has got style. His other number great too, but I must admit I think Paul Wylie skated that years ago and I liked Paul's choreography a bit more so it was hard for me not to compare the two. Ilia is the most amazing jumper!!
